Tangail Sadar and Delduar upazilas on the north, Daulatpur upazila (Manikganj) on the south, Mirzapur, Dhamrai and Saturia upazilas on the east, Chauhali and Daulatpur upazilas on the west.

The Nagarpur thana, now an upazila, was established in 1906. The upazila consists of 12 union parishads, 266 mouzas and 229 villages.
